
The Ireland West ¾ Marathon & 5k is back on the 2nd of September 2023.
RACE INFORMATION
The Race is on Saturday the 2nd of September 2023.
Race Start Times:
¾ Marathon starting at 10.00am
5k starting at 10.30am
Race Location and Parking:
Race registration and HQ is in the Swinford Community Centre, Swinford Co. Mayo. Just off the N5 There will be limited parking around the Community Centre. F12 HH50
Parking also available at the nearby Swinford GAA Club. F12 V213
Parking will also be available in Swinford Amenity Park. (500m walk). F12 H593 and Tesco Car Park. (500m walk). F12 A586
Stewards will be directing traffic on the day. Please follow their instructions. Please Carpool where possible and allow enough time to park and walk to race registration before 9.30am
Registration Information:
Online registration is available here.
Registration will be open on Friday 1st in the Community Centre between 7.00pm and 9.00 pm Registration on Saturday 3rd opens at 8.00am and closes at 9.30am.
Please bring a form of identification to registration.
Registration packs handed out at registration will include bib number with timing chip, pins, and T-shirt (T shirts for first 250 online entries). You must register in person. To minimise race entry fees, we will not be providing “goody bags”
NB. We are unable to provide refunds or deferrals.
Please do not allow anyone else to run with your number.
Finisher Medals will be given out at the finish line.
Prize Giving will be at race HQ (Community Center) following each race.
Changing Facilities:
There are ladies and gents changing rooms with showers and toilets in the nearby Swinford and GAA Club F12 V213 and Swinford Amenity Park F12 H593
Bags can be left in dressing rooms or registration hall at HQ at owners own risk. Stewards will be on duty all day but will not be responsible for valuables left unattended.
Race Routes:
The race distances have been measured accurately and certified by AAI.
Race routes maps will be on display in registration hall. All races are starting and finishing close to the Community Centre/race HQ and run in an anti-clockwise direction. Race marshals will be at all major junctions to direct runners along each race route. Kilometre markers will be placed along each course, these markers are not officially measured and are for information and assistance only.
The roads are open to traffic, so rules of the road apply throughout. You must always take care. Race briefing will start 15 minutes before each race.
Relay Teams:
Runners for the second and third leg of the ¾ Marathon relay will assemble at the start finish line @9.40 and will travel by bus to the transition points.
Pacers:
We will provide pacemakers for the course to aid inexperienced participants.
Pacers will be running at approximately 105% of the 3.00, 3.30, 4.00 Hour MARATHON Pace. We’re pacing 5% slower than your marathon pace to make sure you don’t empty the tank on this event if you are using it as preparation race for DCM.
Pacing will be based on the following:
- 3:00 Marathon Pace Group
- Planned 2:22 for 3/4 Marathon = approx. 4′ 28″ /km = approx. 7′ 13″ /mile
- 3:30 Marathon Pace Group
- Planned 2:45 for 3/4 Marathon = approx. 5′ 13″ /km = approx. 8′ 24″ /mile
- 4:00 Marathon Pace Group
- Planned 3:10 for 3/4 Marathon = approx. 6′ /km = approx. 9′ 40″ /mile
Please identify and join an appropriate pacing group at the race briefing at Race HQ at 9.55am.
First Aid:
Civil defence and Order of Malta are providing medical cover for the entire race and at the finish line.
If you are unable to finish the race, please alert one of the marshals at the finish line so that we can account for all runners.
Race Refreshments:
There will be 9 stations on the 3/4 Marathon route @ approximately 3k intervals.
Station 1 @ 2.5k Station 2 @ 5.8k Station 3 @ 10.5k Station 4 @ 13.9k Station 5 @ 17.8k
Station 6 @ 19.3k Station 7@ 22.8k Station 8 @25.8k Station 9 @ 29k
1 station on the 5k route @ 2.5k.
Refreshments for the stations will be bottled water 250ml, and water in cups, fruit segments, fruit cake and sweets.
Please dispose of all rubbish close to refreshment station or give to volunteers at the station.
Toilets:
Toilet facilities will be available on the ¾ marathon route @ 5k, 10k, 19k, 25k intervals.
Cut off time:
The course will be officially closed after 5 hours, final finisher @ 3.00pm. This is enough time for someone to walk/jog the course at a 6-hour marathon pace.
iPods & MP3 Players:
In the interests of your own safety and the safety of other road users we request that you do not use personal music devices.
After Race Refreshments:
Sandwiches, buns, cakes, scones, biscuits and tea and coffee. These refreshments are provided in the Community Centre after the race.
Race Results:
The results should be available immediately upon completion from My Run Results.

- Overall 1st, 2nd, 3rd female and male.
- 1st placed female and male for 40-49, 50-59 and 60+ category
- 1st placed female and male u20
- 1st placed relay team.
- 1st team of 4 (From a club or organisation)
5k
- Overall 1st, 2nd, 3rd female and male.
- 1st placed female and male u18
- 1st team of 4 (From a club or organisation)
Your age will be based on your age on race day.
Prizes in all categories will be based on Gun time / Order of crossing the line NOT chip times.
General:
Please obey the race day stewards at all times.
If you are having difficulty or feeling unwell during the race, please notify your nearest steward who will alert the race director or the first aid/medical team on the course.
The roads are open to traffic, so rules of the road apply throughout. You must always take care. There will be bins just after the water stations – please use them!
