Garda Vetting

We are asking all adult members, coaches and one parent/guardian of each juvenile member of Swinford Athletics Club to go through the Garda Vetting Process.

Why do I need to apply for Garda Vetting?

The club has grown significantly over the last few years and the club’s insurance requires a ratio of vetted supervisors to juvenile athletes that we have to met. To reach this ratio, we need far more parents/guardians to supervise at training and in order to supervise, the parent/guardian must be first vetted.

What is Garda Vetting?

The National Vetting Bureau (Children & Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012 – 2016 (NVBA) commenced on 29th April 2016 and the Act provides a legislative basis for the mandatory vetting of persons who wish to undertake certain activities relating to children or vulnerable persons. Vetting is provided to Athletics Ireland (AAI) by the National Vetting Bureau. All volunteers/staff who have regular access to children or vulnerable adults must be vetted as per the National Vetting Bureau Acts 2012 – 2016.

Where do I start?

The process is started by an applicant filling out the AAI eVetting Invitation Form (below). This form contains the legal declarations required for an eVetting invitation which will be subsequently sent to you by email to you from athletics Ireland. The reason for this is that your signature is required to authorise the eVetting process.

Who do I go to with questions?

The Garda vetting process is handled by our children officers, Patricia McKeonAngela Gaughan and Eoin Gallagher. If you have any questions relating to the vetting process, please contact them with your questions either using their contact details or at training.

What is the “Role Being Vetted For”?

Juvenile Training Assistant.

How long does Garda vetting clearance last?

The Garda vetting clearance lasts for 3 years.

I already have Garda Vetting Clearance for another club/sporting organisation, do I need to apply again?

Yes, Garda Vetting is still required.
