Ireland West ¾ Marathon 2026
On Saturday, September 5th, Swinford Athletic Club will proudly host our annual Ireland West ¾ Marathon, 10k, and 5k – the only event of its kind in the West of Ireland. Last year we welcomed over 800 runners from across the country and beyond, and we expect an even greater turnout in 2026.
Swinford Athletic Club has a rich history in East Mayo, fostering athletics and wellbeing across our community for generations. Our members compete at provincial, national, and European level in track, field, and cross-country events, and we welcome athletes of all ages and abilities.
What Your Sponsorship Has Helped Achieve
Sponsorship of this event has had a real and lasting impact on our club and community. Over the past six years, your support has helped us host and run the Ireland West race series — an event that has become one of the most well-regarded community sporting occasions in the region, generating enormous goodwill across East Mayo and beyond.
Sponsorship funds have also contributed directly to our ongoing track development programme at Swinford Amenity Park, where we are building a 6-lane 200m track with 100m sprint lanes:
- Phase 1 ✅ — Site clearance and levelling, rudimentary track with drainage, lighting, and secure fencing
- Phase 2 ✅ — Full 6-lane 200m synthetic track with bitumen base, lined red finish, and sprint lanes
- Phase 3 🔄 (In Progress) — Astroturf to the central infield area and finishing of surrounding grounds
This infrastructure benefits every member of our club and the wider community for years to come.

Our Plans Going Forward
With your continued support, we aim to complete Phase 3 of the track and further grow the Ireland West race series into an even larger event that puts Swinford on the map for runners across Ireland and Europe.
Beyond the track, we have an exciting new community project in the pipeline – a dedicated running and walking path with lighting on unused land in the centre of Swinford, adjacent to the Tesco carpark and the Swinford AC track. Permission has been secured and the project is currently in the planning and funding phase.
This would be a fantastic addition to the town, providing a safe, accessible, and well-lit route for walkers, joggers, and athletes of all ages – open to the entire community. It would also serve as a valuable training facility for Swinford AC athletes, and is another example of how sponsorship of our events contributes to lasting benefits for Swinford.
